Joy Liu

Joy Liu is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC 53681) who enjoys working with individuals and couples. Joy has a quiet, nurturing presence and uses a strength-based approach in psychotherapy. Her work with clients includes influences from drama therapy, attachment theory, motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy. Joy comes from a Chinese American background and Christian faith.  She enjoys working with clients from all kinds of cultural backgrounds, faith traditions, and life journeys.  A second-generation Chinese American, Joy speaks English as well as conversational Mandarin and Cantonese.

Joy received her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Seminary in Los Gatos in December, 2008. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in drama from Stanford University. Joy is trained in EMDR and has pursued additional training from the Therapeutic Spiral Institute for the use of psychodrama in the treatment of trauma. Joy is a PREPARE-ENRICH Facilitator and has completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Joy is also trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples.
